We treat both acute pain problems and chronic pain in our department. The department has a very long tradition of acute and multimodal pain treatment in orthopedic patients. In addition to optimizing pain medication and providing intensive physiotherapy and exercises, fluoroscopically controlled spine injections are offered as well as physical treatment, shock-wave therapy, acupuncture, and other therapies.
The treatments are performed by an interdisciplinary team of orthopedic surgeons and orthopedic pain specialists, neurosurgeons, anesthesiology pain specialists, psychologists, physiotherapists, physician assistants, occupational therapists, nurses, and others.
Patients with acute pain are mainly treated at St. Josef Hospital in Bochum.
If in-patient multimodal pain treatment is decided on, it is provided in the Blankenstein Clinic in Hattingen. This is a very intensive type of interdisciplinary pain therapy.
